Our vision

Give biology a data engine built at the scale intelligence requires.

Life is extraordinarily diverse. Its complexity exists in molecular structures, in the organization of cells and tissues, and in the long range information carried by genomes. Advancing healthcare, food production, and biological science requires measurements large and rich enough to represent that complexity.

Centrillion’s vision is to make high dimensional biological data abundant, precise, and economical. High-density DNA chips provide the measurement layer. Biological models provide the learning layer. Together they create a path from molecules to understanding.

What we build

The connection between wafer-scale sensing and biological AI.

Our work spans probe design, synthesis chemistry, semiconductor process engineering, assay development, imaging, data systems, and machine learning. This vertical connection matters because the quality of a biological model begins with how its data is generated.

We design chips to produce structured molecular evidence at high scale. We also explore DNA and tissue models that can use those data, expose meaningful context, and help guide the next measurement.

From platform to application

Enabling life science at wafer scale takes industrial-scale collaboration.

Moving a biological technology from invention to broad use requires more than a chip. It takes reliable manufacturing, assay development, product engineering, regulatory work, and partners with deep application expertise. One of Centrillion’s commercialization models is to enable others to build on our wafer-scale platform.

Custom ATOM™ Chips for focused diagnostics

Centrillion developed the compact ATOM™ chip format during the COVID-19 pandemic for multiplex pathogen monitoring. For the current application, a single wafer can be diced into approximately 5,000 chips. A partner is now commercializing a very high throughput custom ATOM™ chip for focused diagnostic applications, with the potential to support cost-effective testing across very large populations.

Working with WeDoctor International

WeDoctor International and Centrillion are collaborating across a range of programs, including work toward regulatory approval of diagnostic tests. The collaboration connects Centrillion’s molecular platform with experience in digital health and large scale healthcare delivery.

10x Genomics at commercial scale

In January 2023, Centrillion and 10x Genomics signed a technology license and technology transfer agreement. The agreement provided 10x Genomics with a nonexclusive license to specified Centrillion chip technology for spatial and single cell applications. In the Greater China region, Centrillion retains exclusive rights for clinical applications. Centrillion also retains global rights in spatial and single-cell applications across research-use and clinical markets.

As part of the broader transaction, 10x Genomics also acquired Centrillion’s Taiwan chip pilot facility, Centrillion’s first commercial scale product demonstration site. Centrillion retained engineering and bioinformatics capabilities in Taiwan.

Today, 10x Genomics states that its HD 3′ Gene Expression product is manufactured under license from Centrillion. See the current 10x Genomics product page.

Founder and Chief Executive Officer

Wei ZhouPh.D., J.D.

While working in colon cancer research and bioinformatics, Wei became fascinated by the genome’s complexity and by the lack of tools capable of studying it at scale. At DNA chip pioneer Affymetrix, he became Vice President of Advanced Technology and Intellectual Property. Before founding Centrillion, he was a partner at Wilson Sonsini Goodrich & Rosati, where he advised technology startups. He also cofounded Sentieon, a bioinformatics software company. At Centrillion, Wei learned from semiconductor veterans how precision manufacturing works at scale and collaborated with organizations including Taiwan’s Industrial Technology Research Institute to build an operating fab. Many nights in the fab and countless rounds of troubleshooting gave him a deep appreciation for the art of light-directed synthesis and chip making. He continues to be energized by the convergence of AI and large scale biology.

Senior Vice President, Technology

Glenn McGallPh.D.

Glenn and Wei first worked together during the formative years of DNA chip technology. After early work in DNA based diagnostics at Syva, Glenn joined Stephen Fodor’s team at Affymax to develop the first commercial photolithographic DNA arrays. He continued at Affymetrix as Director of Chemistry and Process Development and later Vice President of Chemistry and Process Technologies, helping turn efficient surface synthesis chemistry into a scalable platform. Reunited at Centrillion, he leads chemistry and process technology for a new generation of high-density, wafer-scale synthesis.

Vice President, Advanced Technology and Engineering

Filip CrnogoracPh.D.

Filip came to Centrillion through the recommendation of his Stanford advisor, Professor Fabian Pease. He works where chip architecture meets the factory floor, connecting engineering with wafer-scale process innovation. He has been instrumental in platform and manufacturing development. Among his many inventions is SpinCell, which makes automated photodirected DNA synthesis possible.

Jeremy S. EdwardsPh.D.

Jeremy joined Centrillion because of a shared vision for genomics: moving beyond isolated variants toward decoding entire genomes. As a postdoctoral fellow in George Church’s laboratory at Harvard Medical School, he worked on emerging next generation sequencing technologies. He later served as Chair of the Department of Chemistry and Chemical Biology at the University of New Mexico, where his work bridges biology, bioinformatics, and engineering.

Chief Technology Advisor

Peter HsiehPh.D.

Peter first became part of Centrillion as an investor representing the ARM IoT Fund. A visionary in the practical use of computing, he brought experience in edge computing, vision AI, and AI chip design to biology long before AI became fashionable. Before the large language model breakthrough, he saw that artificial intelligence and life sciences were on a path to converge and became a driving force behind that connection at Centrillion. His more than 40 years of experience include serving as President of Arm Taiwan and Vice President of Innovation and Investment, establishing Arm’s first Asia Design Center, and leading Freescale design centers in China. Earlier, he helped build the first single chip CMOS RISC microprocessor at IBM Watson and was a founder or founding team member of several Silicon Valley companies, including an early fabless PC chipset company. His work has connected semiconductor innovation with universities, governments, and emerging applications including healthcare and IoT.

Matt WangPh.D.

Matt’s path to Centrillion began in digital health and as an investor representative. His conviction in the underlying DNA chip technology expanded his role into company leadership and the direction of research. A former Global Vice President at IBM who later led Cybernaut International, he brings experience in big data, artificial intelligence, cloud platforms, AI enabled healthcare, and international market development.
